The first thing that needs to be done is install Active Directory Integration from within Dotnetnuke. This will allow you to use Active Directory Integration on a site by site basis.
- Navigate to Dotnetnuke and download the latest version of the Active Directory Provider Install File. You must be logged into Dotnetnuke to download the file http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Products/Development/Forge/ProviderAuthentication/Downloads/tabid/852/Default.aspx
- Login as a user account with “Host” level access.
- Navigate to Host | Host Settings
- Under the “Advance Settings” area expand the “Authentication Settings” area.
- Click on the link , “Install New Authentication System”

- Browse and select the Zip file you downloaded from Dotnetnuke containing the Active Directory Authentication Provider. Then click “Next”.

- A license agreement will appear. You should accept the agreement by putting a check in the checkbox and then press “Next”.
- The package will now install. You should see, "
- You will return to the "Host Settings" page. Navigate back to the "Authentication Settings" and expand it.
- Verify that you have enabled the Active Directory Provider by placing a check in the "Enabled" column next to "ActiveDirectory".
- Scroll to the bottom up the page and click "Update" button.
You have now installed Active Directory on your Dotnetnuke installation and it is available to use on a portal by portal basis. Now we need to configure a portal to use the Active Directory Authentication.
- Login to the portal that you wish to utilize Active Directory on with an account that at least has "Admin" level access to the portal.
- Navigate to Admin | Authentication

- The rest of the fields should be self explanatory.
- TIP: Make sure you leave both DNN and Active Directory Enabled at the start as you might setup something wrong and end up locking yourself out.

Re: Using the Active Directory Authentication Provider for Dotnetnuke I like to use an LDAP browser to test my connection before putting anything into DNN. The one I usually use is this one. www.ldapbrowser.com/
See if you can get connected that way first.

Re: Using the Active Directory Authentication Provider for Dotnetnuke THANK you. I almost wore Google out trying to figure out why I could not find "Active Directory Settings" on the Auth page. You are the only person who included the part about installing the authentication system in 4.x. By Tom G on
